I hate those damn songs…

September 27th, 2004 | No Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

You know those songs that get stuck in your head? I have had “I can see clearly now” stuck in my head for about three hours. I have tried various methods to remove the song from my memory, but to no avail.
Anywho, today was in an interesting one.

I woke up alone (Geoff had gone running as scheduled), took a shower and headed out for class. I ended up skipping two of my classes today to write a paper. I just could not get a good start on the paper because of what it was over. Typically writing about HIV/AIDS is really easy for me, but this time I was instructed to write over Peter Duesberg (I call him Peter Deuchebag). He believes that AIDS is not caused by HIV but by choices… i.e., someone chooses to be gay and therefore contracts AIDS. The thing that really bothers me about this is that you CANNOT contract a syndrome. AIDS stands for “Acquired Immune Difficiency Syndrome”, not virus, it is not AIDV. HIV is a virus, you can catch it just like you can catch mononucleitus. There are HUGE differences between syndromes, viruses and bacterial infections, and for being a pioneer in retro viruses and the first person to find a cancer gene, Deuchebag is really fucking up.

He says that HIV is not real because you cannot isolate it outside of a host. That is because it is a virus, not a bacterial/fungal infection like Anthrax, the case in point for Koch’s Postulate. Koch’s Postulate is what Deuchebag uses as his proof that HIV is fake. But Koch based his findings on Anthrax, which is a fungus, which can grow on its own, which does not require a host cell, which reproduces or at least survives on its own!

HIV is Human Immunodificiency Virus. It does not cause people to get opportunistic infections, as Peter Deuchebag seems to think we are claiming. HIV suppresses the immune system to a level that opportunistic infections can attack the body, and claim it.

The Boils of Branson

September 24th, 2004 | No Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

This is a perfect example of the types of things that go down in Branson Missouri that makes those native to Missouri ashamed of the “combination of neon and nature”.

For those who do not know the story, a man named Andrew Wilson, inventor of the neon lights that light the underbody of “riced-out” Honda’s, changed his name this week. In any other circumstance, this might be normal. Perhaps his father was Michael Jackson and Blanket did not suit him. But honestly, Andrew Wilson requires some serious imagination to poke fun of. I.E. Ann Drew [a] Wilson…

No, this guy changed his name just because he wanted everyone to know who they were. They are the ones always doing the great things. “Who saved you and your dog from the raging fire?” “They saved me!”

He changed his name to “They”. His lives in Branson. I am done.

New Bed and CurtainsSo my grandmother came to visit me last weekend. We had a really great time. I showed my grandmother around Columbia and my apartment. The prior she was not unfamiliar with… She and I used to come to Columbia from time to time once we decided that I would be going here. However, she had not yet seen my apartment, which she loved. The only part she said she did not like was my bed spread, so we went out and bought what you see on the left! It is so much nicer than what I used to have haha. The curtains make a big difference.

I will try to find a picture of what I used to have as my bedding.

We also ate at some wonderful places while she was here. Addison’s, Sophia’s, Tellers… Columbia actually does have some good places to eat. I do believe that the best place was Sophia’s. They have the most fabulous Humus; it is silkier than The Artisan’s and actually has a flavor to it!

Speaking of The Artisan…
The ArtisanI feel really bad because I am never there anymore. I guess I don’t feel bad in the sense that I should be giving them money ( often go there and drink water) but because it was such a large part of my last semester. I don’t think there was a single week last semester that I did not patronize this fine establishment. Sure their drinks are not the best, and the music can be too loud sometimes, and their humus is nothing to call home about (but we have already discussed that), the place just does something for me. It is my haven from everything else. I am hoping that I will have more free time to study there. I am planning on at least two hours there a week. Their Frappe’s are not that shabby!

Tantilizing Tidbits To Tell

So today was yet another wonderful day. I woke up and had breakfast with Geoffrey at Mark Twain… not the best tasting breakfast I have ever had, but it was the company that mattered.

Off to Grapes and Wines where I essentially surfed the internet for an hour, then to Memorial Union (which I coin to MSU) where I socialized with various people, having just a fabulous time.

Whilst there I watched the preview of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow… this movie looks fabulous. I had really wanted to see Garden State but that did not work out, so perhaps I will be able to make it to this one.

Mark Twain SignLater Geoff and I had dinner at Mark Twain (imagine that) and guess who we saw! (since no one reading this besides Geoff knows…) We saw Travis from Prism… sadly not something either of us wanted haha. This kid is one of those that, well I don’t know what to say except that he better be careful. He might get himself into some serious trouble if he continues going after the guys he is going after (5+ years older than he).

Now, after studying for International Relations and Wal-Mart and a Gumby’s fest AND finishing Office Space, I am ready for bed. But too bad for Justin because Geoff is still working on homework!!!

What a bitch! (only joking of course)

My eye lids are getting heavy, and if all things have gone as planned, I will have pictures to post tomorrow of George W. Bush as coloured by my fabulous roommates.

Ciao loves

Some Super Something

September 22nd, 2004 | No Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

So the past few weeks have been beautiful, and I am not just talking about the weather either! I have just been so happy with where I am and where I am going, for the first time in a long time.

I am a senator for the University of Missouri’s students and it is fabulous. I really love politics and perhaps someday I will really get into it. Right now I am just exploring.

My grades this semester are fabulous so far. I have a 90 in Bio, a 100 in Grapes and Wines I have a 97 in Anthropology (???) and in Rural Sociology I have a 90. International Relations is an 85.

That gives me a 3.766 GPA, which is fabulous, for me at least. Anthropology test yesterday might have killed me, but I think I did a pretty decent job on it. I have another test tomorrow in International Relations. I wish he had given us a review sheet, but oh well.
