I hate those damn songs…
You know those songs that get stuck in your head? I have had “I can see clearly now” stuck in my head for about three hours. I have tried various methods to remove the song from my memory, but to no avail.
Anywho, today was in an interesting one.
I woke up alone (Geoff had gone running as scheduled), took a shower and headed out for class. I ended up skipping two of my classes today to write a paper. I just could not get a good start on the paper because of what it was over. Typically writing about HIV/AIDS is really easy for me, but this time I was instructed to write over Peter Duesberg (I call him Peter Deuchebag). He believes that AIDS is not caused by HIV but by choices… i.e., someone chooses to be gay and therefore contracts AIDS. The thing that really bothers me about this is that you CANNOT contract a syndrome. AIDS stands for “Acquired Immune Difficiency Syndrome”, not virus, it is not AIDV. HIV is a virus, you can catch it just like you can catch mononucleitus. There are HUGE differences between syndromes, viruses and bacterial infections, and for being a pioneer in retro viruses and the first person to find a cancer gene, Deuchebag is really fucking up.
He says that HIV is not real because you cannot isolate it outside of a host. That is because it is a virus, not a bacterial/fungal infection like Anthrax, the case in point for Koch’s Postulate. Koch’s Postulate is what Deuchebag uses as his proof that HIV is fake. But Koch based his findings on Anthrax, which is a fungus, which can grow on its own, which does not require a host cell, which reproduces or at least survives on its own!
HIV is Human Immunodificiency Virus. It does not cause people to get opportunistic infections, as Peter Deuchebag seems to think we are claiming. HIV suppresses the immune system to a level that opportunistic infections can attack the body, and claim it.
bah… i gtg
