In Tulsa

March 31st, 2006 | No Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

I’m in Tulsa today after some 13 hours on public transportation.  My grandfather died as I was in route to see him and say goodbye for the last time, and the first time in a year or more.  I didn’t make it in time and now I will never have that chance again.

We are driving to Texas today and I don’t really have the time or energy to write more.

Such Truth

My First Shift

March 24th, 2006 | No Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

Fucking hate Wordpress.  Lost a beautifully long post about my first day opening Starbucks as a shift.  Fuck you Wordpress.

Anyways, let us recap, while my stomach turns in anger over losing the post.  Wednesday was my first time to open my Starbucks as a shift…
I opened the store a few minutes early, turned off the alarm.  It starts going off!  I try again, nothing.  I call Callie like 10 times for help, the alarm company calls to ask if everythign is ok, yeah, they turn it off, things are going well.  I open the store on the computer, blah blah… the alarm goes off again!  This time I am able to turn it off myself.

I open the safe, easy peasy.  Now it won’t close and is telling me there is a safe violation “close safe”.  But it won’t close.

Phew, everything back in order.

Wait, no schedule of who is coming on, when and where they are positioned.  No idea how long they are there, when they get breaks and when/if they get lunches.  So I start calculating this information in my head as soon as they come in for their shifts.  What a headache!  (my math seems to be improving hehe)

We get quite the rush, zeke and michael are on the bar whipping out drinks like nobodies business, Gloria is floating the lobby cleaning up a spill and doing a re-brew, Katherine is making whipped creams, refilling milks, cleaning up the pastry case and ringing in orders (whew!) and I am working the register, calling down drinks, making a coffee traveller, gathering the fourteen bottles of water this woman just ordered along with her fourteen pastries.  I get a call for a transfer from another Starbucks, they need coffee filters, done.

Everyone got their drinks, their pastries and their legendary service.  Everyone got their ten and thirty minute breaks.  Everyone worked like a freaking machine.  It was incredible.

I got the deposit done, my first ever and without the proper training (read none) but with some help from Micheal and Callie (thank God for Callie).  It was an incredible rush.  I loved it!

I was very nervous that I would let everyone down, but…

Tonight at seVen

March 21st, 2006 | 1 Comment | Posted in Uncategorized

Um, tonight was interesting.  Started outa  dull night at seVen, then things picked up, danced with Pedro and then Marcos bought me a drink, Steve the hottie from Cotati (well, really petaluma but it sounds better that way, close to cotati! haha) was there and remembered me, talked to me, etc etc.  he is so beautiful and nice… ahhhhhhhhhh

I walked Pedro to his car, he seemed a bit down :(

I was driving home when I saw Seth and Stacey, total coincidence.  I drove them to seVen, went in… Marcos and I hugged and he kissed my neck, Seth became jealous…

Blah blah, time passes.  I am in front of Stacey’s house with Seth in my car, Stacey inside.  He tells me things, how much he loves me, he misses me, how often he thinks about me, how his family misses me, etc etc…  Tears, hugs, kisses, tears and more kisses.

What does it all mean?

Exhausted

Um, had a few hours of sleep after one hell of a workout, then crashed at Callie’s.  our plans for the night went down the drain a bit but we managed to still have a wonderful evening.  Hope it ends well for her…

We saw V for Vendetta (the second time for me).  EVERYONE SEE THIS MOVIE.

What a workout!  I did the eliptical for 65 minutes and burned 947 calories, plus some!  My heart rate never went above 189 which is like a HUGE improvement.  When I started out on the eliptical, my average speed was 8mph, heart rate up to 210 averaging around 190 and I stopped after about 15-20 minutes.  Now I have increased my speed by 3mph, decreased my heart rate by over 20bpm and increased my workout by 45-50 minutes!  How awesome is that?

I follwed that workout with a twenty minute ab workout, 30 crunches, 20 oblique, 30 crunches, 20 oblique and then 30 crunches.

I have not been able to do much upper body still, argh.  My wrist isn’t quite ready for that kind of stress…  oh well.

Well, gotta wake up in four hours for work, then doing naptime with Callie followed up by some internet updating at Aromas, a workout with Callie and finally, a fun night with… Callie.  Wow, Callie is really on the menu tomorrow haha.  We closed together tonight, it was awesome!

Open with Lacey tomorrow, sweetness, I miss working with her.

Wow
