Vista Me?

April 19th, 2007 | 8 Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

So we should all know by now that I am no longer a Windows fan boy.  I actually had a terrible experience using Vista the other day.  So then why am I thinking about upgrading to Windows Vista on my laptop/desktop?

Both computers can run Vista, that’s why.  My laptop… well it would do better without the upgrade but my desktop smokes the minimum requirements.

  • 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 1 GB of system memory
  • 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
  • Support for DirectX 9 graphics with:

    • WDDM Driver
    • 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)
    • Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware
    • 32 bits per pixel
  • DVD-ROM drive
  • Audio Output
  • Internet access (fees may apply)

I have a 3.16ghz Pentium 4, 3gb of system memory, 800gb of hard drive space, DirectX 10, 256mb of video memory, two DVD drives (DVD and DVD-R 16x and another CD-R drive), 7.1 audio output and high speed internet.

I just want to play with it… is that so wrong?  Carrie, don’t hate me!

I’ve Got Ten Minutes…

April 18th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in Uncategorized

I’m on a ten minute break at Starbucks this beautiful Wednesday morning.  Working mornings is pretty nice, you stay busy and the time flies by.  I only have three more hours and I’m outta here.  Wow… maybe time doesn’t fly, I feel like I’ve been here forever.  I guess that comes from going to work a few hours early to do prep work for my French oral exam that happens today.

I shouldn’t be so afraid of this thing… but I am.  I’m writing scripts and trying to memorize them so at least I can spill out beautiful French phrases, nevermind if they make sense. haha

Chadd and I went to GNC the other day and picked up some exercise stuff.  I got these pre-workout pills that are supposed to provide long lasting energy so you can get the most outta your workout.  Well, they work.  Too well actually.  I was awake hours and hours later than I wanted.  I just curled myself up in bed and tried all I could to fall asleep for a few hours.  Sleep finally came but all yesterday morning I was antsy.

The pills made me extremely anxious too.  I was a bit over emotional from it all.  Not sad emotion, mostly positive emotion, clingy a bit much and yeah, a good deal nervous.

Now I know to take them earlier in the day, say 3pm instead of 7pm.

The Artisan Scent

Landon and I have always had thing about the smell of The Artisan.  Not just the smell of The Artisan itself but the aroma it leaves on your person.  Apparently they like it…

The Artisan Smells Good

So this one’s for you Landon.

Misery River

This is my first panorama shot… pretty much ever.  I went to the Missouri River this weekend to take some pictures.  The weather was finally looking up for us here in Columbia.  This “spring” season brought us snow, huge rains, below freezing weather, temperatures approaching the mid 80’s… It has been crazy

I originally was just driving around and then I got lost… imagine that.  I drove around through all of these rural roads and routes…  It was quite an adventure.   I didn’t really get that many pics taken.  But oh well.  The time was fun.

Going Postal Update

April 16th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

So I figured I would try to order the headphone tips again, this time I could at least calculate the shipping and tax, still couldn’t get the postal code to stick.

Check out that shipping cost!  it’s 150% the cost of the headphone silicon tips!  (Note, not silicon tits, those are totally different)

Ultimate Ears Shipping

I just don’t know what to do.  Maybe I can get some nearby distributor to order them for me.  Perhaps they won’t charge me such outrageous shipping.  Luckily I found an extra set of ear pieces for it.  They aren’t the silicon ones I like but they will work for now.  Landon might also have an extra pair for me, we shall see!

Going Postal

ultimate-ears-order-formsm.jpgSo I love my UltimateEars Super.fi 5 Pro headphones.  Really, the best headphones I have purchased; I even prefer them to my Sennheiser HD600’s, work with my iPod without an amplifier and knock-out all the sound around me.  Plus they are super portable.

My complaints?  Well, my headphone cable has shorted out twice and one of the replacements they sent me was defective.  Right now I have a replacement cable that is black, doesn’t match my clear headphones.  That’s a bit annoying.  More recently I realized that I needed to replace the flexible silicon ear tips.

Now, this was more of an expected thing.  Mine were a year old and I didn’t really expect the little pieces of rubber to last that long.  Further more, they didn’t break, I lost one.

But when I tried to order a new set (5 pair for $10) I found another annoying situation with the company that I otherwise adore.  Their order form has a field titled “Postal Code” but there isn’t a blank for it.  So, when you try to check out it gives you an error message requesting you to fill out the postal code section… but you can’t!

So I have $300 headphones (now available around $180, get them!) that I can’t really use.  Erg.

Why Am I So Funny?

April 12th, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

As quoted through AIM with Carrie

conversation 1: “if my son was barking like a seal, i would leave at least 16 minutes early”

conversation 2: “i’ve basically had unprotected sex with google i’ve been in bed with them so long, i just have to trust them at this point :-)”

conversation 5 with a professor (wasn’t me!): “it’s not like they are throwing a dental dam in your face and telling you to try out the buffet”

Is it ok for me to quote someone else quoting me?  (I especially am proud of the last one)

Aye, I’m Getting Me Eyes Fixed

April 11th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Uncategorized

I am supposed to be going to my second of three appointments where a Dr. H Kell Yang would fix the corneal abnormalities I have and send me home with 20/15 vision.

However… unfortunately or perhaps luckily I won’t be getting my eyes worked on here by the very qualified Dr.Yang and instead will be done by Dr. Slade. Dr. Slade pretty much invented Lasik, having performed tens of thousands of procedures. He has the absolute highest technology, much it it not even available to many Lasik surgeons.

But this means that I have to make the call to Dr. Yang’s office today and basically apologize for wasting their time on my consultation and their appointment time today. I hate that.

Plus, I will have to wait a little longer to get Dr. Slade to do my eyes. I have to go to Houston for that and that means I have to wait until classes are out. That isn’t too long, plus it will be done by the absolute best in the business. I was so excited about getting my eyes fixed, finally, and so soon, April 24th.
