How I Celebrated my Independence

A Fourth of July fireworks display at the Wash...Image via Wikipedia

So yesterday was the fourth of July.  Or rather, it was the Fourth of July.  The day we celebrate our independence, here in America. Last year I was in Washington DC for the Fourth of July with best friend Landon.  We had a nearly missed the show, and in the capitol city, but it was a wonderful time.  This year was different, being in Missouri and not anywhere all that exciting.

We celebrate this by cooking out with friends and family, grilling some burgers and brats, enjoying the outdoor weather, drinking and setting off fireworks followed by watching a professional fireworks show later in the evening.

I accidentally didn’t do any of those things.  I had the intention of grilling out with Ryan at his work.  I had this idea that I’d hang out with my friend Beau and his guests for a Bar-B-Que.  I thought I’d pick up some sparklers for a photo I wanted to take.  I thought later I would go to Jefferson City or to Faruot Field and watch the fireworks show.

What happened was totally different but still a lot of fun.  I went to Harpo’s where I hung out with Colin, Kevin, Brittany, Ashley and a couple of other friendly people.  We had the idea of being on a roof equaling a great view of the fireworks.  Not so much.  The trees around the building blocked any site of the show.  But that was ok, we had our drinks and our conversation.  I had not seen Kevin in about a year so it was wonderful catching up with him. Plus, we totally matched.

Later we went to the trainwreck of a gay bar out here called, Arches and Columns.  I hear it used to be a real deal pub, and then it was a leather daddy bar and now it’s just a dive.  But always fun.

Bumped into more people I hadn’t seen in quite some time, had a drink, had a good time.  We hung out a bit more at Kevin’s before I went home and crashed.

Pride, Porn and Jestertunes

I got an email from Paul from Jestertunes.com saying he wanted to meet up at Pride.  He has been a long time reader of my blog and I thought it would be totally fun to meet a reader.

I listened to Keith and the Girl (KATG) as I walked the walk from our hotel to the Bart and from the station to the Civic Center where all of the festivities were going on.  For the longest time I was lost in the KATG episode instead of pride and it wasn’t until Paul called me that it really kicked in where I was haha.

Down there I bumped into a classmate from Santa Rosa Junior College who I met through an old friend, Chris.  He’s another porn star (Turk Melrose) (wow, I know a lot of porn stars) and probably the best looking one I know, wink wink.

One thing I have noticed about the porn stars I know, they are all so nice.  Like, the sweetest people you would ever meet.  He was signing autographs and looking all sorts of busy so I didn’t hang around too much.

But while I was at his booth waiting for him to get a free moment, I found a couple of DVD’s of an old flame (haha) and a flier for their company, Pornteam.com, which used the same stock photography I purchased for the Megaplex site I made.  I found that pretty funny.

Then off to another booth.  I was approached a few times for kisses and handed condoms and lube from a few people… Oh Pride how I love you.

Met Paul and his crew at the Smirnoff booth.  What fun people these guys were!  We shamelessly judged and drooled over guys and had just a gay ‘ol time.

Then there was of course, the weird (even more weird than the above Gay Zombie)

After a while we decided to make a bee line for some dinner.  Every year they get Thai food after the festivities.

On the way to Thai we bumped into Nick Starr.  Fun guy.  He propositioned me a few more times (hehe) and we took a few pictures together, Paul, Nick and Justin: Internet Whores.

I just had a cup of really yummy soup at Zen Yai Thai since I was waiting to eat my real meal with Ryan.

We bumped into some more porn stars (damn, lucky us) and haggled them on a DVD.  Went from $25 to $10 to $5 to $7 + and ass grab.  It was fun, he was cute (on the left).

We hung out there for a good long time, before I went back to the hotel where, despite our plans for authentic Thai, we ended up crashing the rest of the night.  Still, it was a lot of fun, and meeting some readers was awesome too.

Pride + Ninah = Shopalicious

June 29th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Just My Fabulousness, Just My Life

Pride went much differently this year.  Instead of the long nights full of drinking, dancing and partying, it was long days full of running around San Francisco with friends, shopping and eating out.

Ninah came into the city today to hang out with Ryan and I.  We met at Dósa, a mostly vegetarian, restaurant specializing in Southern Indian cuisine.  Think the namesake (Dósa) and samosas and the like.

We found the restaurant on Yelp!, as we find most of the places we dine when out on the town and not in Columbia.  Yelp!, if you don’t know, is a social network built upon user reviews of restaurants, hotels, bars, doctors and pretty much anything service oriented.  It really should be your first stop, if not one stop shop, for getting around a new city.

The food was fantastic, if not a little spicier than we had anticipated.  I don’t see how any even mildly affluent person in India could possibly be dehydrated.  I think  I drank half a gallon of water.  But oh, it was worth it.  If you’re vegetarian, there were at least two other vegetarian restaurants just next door or down a block from Dosa in the Mission.

After Dósa we headed to the second largest shopping centre in America.  We hit all the usual spots, picked up a few things at Express, at H&M, Fredrick’s of Hollywood and a few others, then headed to the Apple store to have my laptop looked at.  The battery has been giving me trouble (turns out it was user error).  While I played at Apple, Ninah and Ryan went to Armani Exchange and then we headed to the hotel for a well deserved rest.

We found a sushi joint that looked good and headed up to the Tenderloin.  Ninah and I shared a few sushi dishes while Ryan went totally vegetarian.  Once again our meal was a little spicier than we had expected so much so that I couldn’t handle the seaweed salad sushi.

We used the heat from our sushi as an excuse to pop into a 24/hour donut joint for dessert.  We each only had one donut, wow were they good!

We walked up the block to the hole in the wall Seth and I used to frequent called The Cinch, donuts in tow.

It was the hot tranny mess that I remembered.  Fabulously messy.  There was a drag show on that night, even better.

We hung around for one number and then decided to check out of there and get Ninah to her lesbian-mobile (aka Suburu).

Ninah brought us back here and now it’s time for bed.  Goodnight!

The Piano Bar

June 19th, 2008 | 5 Comments | Posted in Just My Life

Last night, while Ryan worked hard all night saving lives, Micheal and I joined Dustin, Annalee and Seema at the Piano bar for some good times.

IMG_0305

We drank a top hat.  It’s like Sangria plus hard liquor. It’s like heaven.  It’s $12.

IMG_0307

It’s really big and Micheal and Annalee drank it all.  (Well, not really)

IMG_0309

It was a really fun night.  I’m glad Micheal called me to go hang out.  :-)  We were txt messaging Jenny the entire time, sending pictures and our love.  Next week Micheal and I are going to Saint Louis to visit her and go to Showtune Tuesday.  How exciting!

Now for the Main Event

We almost didn’t make it to see the fireworks. It was touch and go as we were still eating when we heard the first crack of the fireworks. We actually missed much of the show, but thanks to Landon, we made it just in time to get a few glimpses at the show from the roof of his office building.

And then there were all of the cities surrounding Washington DC having their own fireworks shows. It was awesome to stand on the roof of Landon’s building and see six or more different fireworks shows 360 degrees around you.

And here is why I love my new (yet old) lens. These next two shots were taken from Landon’s building in the heart of Washington DC of a fireworks show in Maryland Virigina!
