Rick Perry disgusts me

I try not to make it a habit of writing purely political posts but the new Rick Perry YouTube video threw me over the edge. If you like the video, you probably won’t like this post.

There is no shortage of reasons I don’t think Perry should be a presidential candidate for the Republican party. I don’t even think he should be the Governor of Texas. It’s not just because he’s a goof who embarrases most people from Texas, like myself, it’s the way he markets himself as a candidate.

For whatever reason, the loud, far right conservative politicians on the scene these days treat culture and intelligence as negative attributes. They forget that Christian law, much like Sharia law, is not United States law. They forget that smart people create solutions where others can’t. They forget a lot of things, many of which were their founding principles. I’m not talking about all Republicans, I’m talking about people like Rick Perry.

It’s Time to End Marriage Inequality

My Twitter friend Gabe retweeted a link tonight from @Padbury that simply read, “Please watch this, ‘It’s Time’”. I stopped what I was doing and decided to click the YouTube link. What followed was one of the best marriage equality videos I have ever seen. Zero dialog, remarkably real and absolutely magical. This is what matters.

Please share this post, this video, this message with the people in your life. Also, check out http://www.getup.org.au/marriagematters. There are half a dozen ways below this video to share this with all of your friends. Take this step for marriage equality.

That is all, thanks so much.

My Ignite Presentation Went Great!

Last Wednesday, Ryan and I drove to Sebastopol where I was set to go on stage and give my Ignite presentation. As outgoing and social I might appear on the Internet, situations that put me on center-stage terrify me. This is precisely why I decided I had to accept the invitation to present and conquer my fears.

After completing my presentation, and as I walked down the steps to the ground floor, I could not have been happier with my choice. Ignite Sebastopol was a blast.

First of all, thanks to all you of who gave me the support and encouragement on Twitter and Facebook. I had dozens of messages from friends and strangers alike sending well-wishes my way. Without those positive vibes, I’m not sure I could have made it up the steps to the stage! Continue reading

Zagg invisibleSHIELD Review

In my four years as a proud and lucky owner of an iPhone, I have come to the conclusion that there are generally three camps of iPhone owners. On either extreme are the following:

  • Those who like to live on the edge never putting their iPhones and other gadgets in a protective case. When their screens crack they either wear it as a badge of honor or pay the $75-125 for a fix.
  • Those who fear that at any moment gravity, keys and beer will team up to absolutely annihilate their cellphone. They keep their phones in bulky cases and are constantly replacing their screen protectors as they themselves get scratched up.

I fall right about in the middle. I always have my iPhone and iPad in a slim but protective case with a screen protector, but I have never purchased an OtterBox or even more extreme, the recently announced Case-Mate Tank. While I do value protection, I still want my devices slim and sexy, OtterBoxes are neither slim nor particular sexy, unless your phone is into BDSM of course.

The Zagg invisibleSHIELD has become my de facto device protector used with a slim-line case. It provides the best scratch protection I have ever experienced, lasts longer than any other screen protector I have tried and comes with an unbeatable warranty. Not only that, it can even improve your cellphone’s signal strength! Continue reading
