Columbia Missouri #GeekLunch

It only seemed appropriate that I made my 1,600th post on the blog something relevant, important and fun.  And that would be #GeekLunch, a phenomenon not unique to Columbia but still kick ass.

Several weeks ago I joined my new, social-media-addict friends Colby (@ColbyWG) and Sam (@SJOgborn) at Main Squeeze Cafe (@MainSqueezed) for a nerd lunch.  We chit chatted about social media, new media, media media, technology, marketing, etc etc.  It’s been something I have wanted to do for the last couple of years and I finally have friends here that are as obsessed as I am.

Oh and now that Colby has a sweet new digital camera, we have yet another thing to nerd out over.

Last week we met up at Shakespeare’s Pizza (@ShakesPizza) adding Zach (@DJ_Z), Zack Luye (@ZackLuye), Amy DiFrancesco (@adifran) Zoey Larson (@ZoeyLarsen) and Adam (@artvandelay300) to the meet up.

There, I got to touch, and play with, my very first Google Nexus One, thanks Adam!

Conversation ranged from Colby nearly face planting on Elm Street to the, at the time, upcoming SXSW in Austin to Google, the iPad and who knows what else anymore.  I do remember that the pizza was great and the company awesome.

It’s simple events like this that make living in Columbia feel not quite as isolating, especially compared to when I lived in the new media mecca of San Francisco.  I look forward to the next #GeekLunch, hoping to expand not only the number of people who join but also how often we meet up.

If you live in Columbia and want to join in on the fun, send me a message on twitter or leave a comment on the blog.  We’d love to have ya!

The Story of How It Went Down

So glad @coreyschmidt and @clettenberg moved back to Columbia.  Though, it seems that whenever the four of us get together, Ryan gets tipsy 😛

Me and My Guys!

Brotasticness

They say a picture is worth one thousand words, so instead of using my memory, which is probably a little flakey after the night, to recall the evening, I’ll just post the pictures with captions.  These pictures were taken totally out of context.  It’s kinda hilarious, to me, how they worked out, considering they were totally random, slightly, drunken photos.

And Then it Got Interesting...

Then it Got Interesting...

And Then it Got Interesting...

And Then it Got Out of Focus

And Corey Got Pissed!

Ryan wanted to Join in On the Fun but Corey Wouldn't Have It!

So Corey Decided to Mark His Territory, Chase.

So Corey Decided to Mark His Territory. Chase Attempts to Block Corey's Advances, unsuccessfully I Might Add.

Then, Corey Has an Epiphany!

And then Corey Had an Epiphany!

Then Ryan Tried to Join In

Maybe They Really Can All Be "Friends!"

Touching Down in Memphis

So I’ve finally made it home, after a month and a half out of the state and away from my home and friends, I’m back.

And it feels great!  Last night I went out with some friends for dinner (including tweeps @Chadd65203, @akikooda and @beauaero), bumped into even more friends (@coreyschmidt, @alexandrabrant) at the restaurant and had just a wonderful time.  It’s funny, how much Ryan and I complain about Columbia only for me to ultimately miss it when I leave town for a bit.

I might have been breaking FAA rules by keeping my phone on (in airplane mode!) while we took our final decent into Memphis International Airport.  The view as we touched down reminded me of one of my favorite We Are Voices songs…

So I turned it into a video using my iPhone 3GS, iMovie and their amazing album, What Makes Us So Alive? which you can get by clicking that link to iTunes.  They play some great concerts too, in fact I’ll be at their August 23 show at the Cherry Street Artisan, right here in Columbia Missouri.

Without any further ado…

Scouts with An Horse and Appleseed Cast

_D7C7660

Went to Scout’s last concert here in Columbia on Friday. They played with An Horse and Appleseed Cast at Mojo’s.

The concert was great, love hearing their new stuff, though I do miss some of their old songs… Glad I have the CD I guess.  I didn’t take too many pictures there, seems like since I have like 12gb of Scouts pictures, any more would just be ridiculous.

Here are a few I did take though.

Chase recovers from a Brumski! LoL

Appleseed Cast

This time, and for his very first time, Josh (@brooding_soul) joined me for the Scouts concert.  It was great having him come with me and hanging out later. What a fun night.

Sun Sets on Texas

Oh, sad face! It’s time for me to go back to Columbia, MO.

I had a wonderful time here in Texas. I got to see lots of family, I got to open some fun gifts and I got to take some pictures!

Wait, what?! You haven’t seen some of the new stuff? Shameful! Here’s one, just as a teaser…

You can, of course and as usual, see more at JustinMooreScott.com which has about half of the new pictures up.  Maybe tomorrow I’ll get the rest online, including the one posted above.  I’ve just been too busy!

Alright friends. Time for me to get some sleep.  I have a plane to catch and actually have to wake up in four hours to get ready so I can catch it!  Love to you all, please visit the photoblog and leave comments.  I love to read your comments.

My Humble Abode

Tonight didn’t end as I had planned.  Actually it went completely wrong and I’m still a bit upset which makes me crave change.  So, wanna help me re-arrange my furniture?

Need some suggestions regarding the furniture layout.  Plus this gives a chance for @oseary to see what he can get in Columbia’s District. (Click pic to enlarge)

UPDATE: As requested, here’s a view from the opposite side of the room which includes the bay windows and my computer setup.

So what do you think?  Also, let’s try and figure out where in the hell I’m going to put the Epson Stylus Pro 3800 or whatever replaces it (if that happens at Photokina).  It can be connected through an ethernet cable so I guess I could put it as far away as the where the lamp is to the left of the TV.  I’m at a loss!

UPDATE 2: so, @oseary wants to see the kitchen so why not?

And the bedroom 🙂 Sorry the color is off, just being lazy I guess haha.

Homesick in Houston

It has only been like 30 hours since I left Columbia and I can’t believe it but I’m homesick!

I went on Back to My Mac, which by the way, always works for me and checked in on my apartment using Photo Booth.

I use the PrePane hack, Secrets, to do some extra fun things with MobileMe’s Back to My Mac, you should all get it, btw.

Here’s the picture I got from Photo Booth.

I really need to take hots of the apartment with the new furniture, sorry I didn’t do that before I left.

Anyways, looking at a live shot of my apartment made me all sad that I wasn’t there.  I want to see my fish, I want to enjoy my 55″ HDTV and I want to gaze into my 24″ iMac and ponder over government homework or what I should blog about next.

Never did I ever think I would miss Columbia, and maybe I don’t, I just miss my apartment.  I love my apartment.  It is big, it is clean, it is decorated, it is well equipped from the kitchen to the entertainment.  It has 8 bottles of tasty wine waiting for me.  I just spent $180 buying groceries that are waiting to be eaten.

The floors I just waxed and the new couch and chairs need to be worn in.  I have only slept one night on my new bed!

But all of it is nothing when I keep it to myself.  Happiness is nothing if not shared and with Ryan out of town, I can’t really share so much of it; but he returns Monday and I return Friday.

Well, I guess Micheal will keep the fish company, I miss him too.  And Jeremy, and Max, and Brittany.  And Kaldi’s and Starbucks.

I will have to find a way to keep myself occupied here.  With my closest friend in Houston now in Seoul Korea, I can’t see him when I visit and I miss him so.  We were best friends through high school helping each other out in so many different ways and through all the moves and the distance and the changes in our lives, we are every bit as close as ever.

Except that he’s in Seoul Korea and I’m in Houston, alone.

Wow, I need to get my head straight!  I’m in Houston, I love this city.

Let’s go out in the world, maybe buy something for my camera, maybe eat something totally delicious.  Stop personifying my apartment, no matter how much I love you.

Now if Chase could maybe make another trip down here from Columbia, I’d have a buddy with whom I’d waste time and money and enjoy every second of it.
