A Cake, a Movie, a Melon Baller

I’ve made some wonderful friends through Twitter and just a few weekends ago, I got to share one of these friendships with many of my old friends.

Ryan and Ben, (@rzhale and @joubiku, respectively on Twitter) came into town for a weekend away from the bustling city life that is Kansas City, ahem.  The weekend had been heavily anticipated for all involved for a few weeks and as the days closed in the anticipation grew to astronomical proportions.
I welcomed them to their new home for the weekend, my apartment and shortly after their arrival we headed down to Shakespeare’s Pizza (@ShakesPizza) for some dinner, drinks and a fun environment.

After pizza we stopped by Top Ten Wines for a few minutes before ultimately heading back to my apartment for wine, cookies and hours of hilarious YouTube videos. I don’t’ think Phoebe (@fotofobe), Josh (@brooding_soul), Ryan, Ben or I had ever laughed as hard in our lives. One of the most entertaining evenings in I’ve ever had.

Phoebe and I decided we should share our new addiction to Cafe Berlin (@CafeBerlin) to Josh, Ryan and Ben. Amazing breakfast, delicious food, fun, waitstaff and a comically difficult cream dispenser.

That evening was Cake and a Movie Night (#CaaM).  I made a Chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting and a bittersweet chocolate-peanut butter ganache.

Before Cake and a Movie, we headed out for wine drinking at Top Ten Wines downtown (@TopTenWines), my absolute favorite wine bar, where Chase (@clettenberg) performing.  Yet again, Chase put on a great show and as per usual, Lauren (@laurenkilberg) proved to be a fantastic wine maiden.

Cake and a Movie had a great turn out, some regulars and some new attendees.

My Ryan (@kaleb1983) finally got to join us for the weekend festivities.  We watched Toy Story, the Pixar film that put them on the map.  Wow, who would have known how funny that movie would be, over ten years later.  I sure wasn’t expecting all the laughs.

The next morning, Ryan, Ben, Ryan and I went to Bleu for a brunch before Ben and Ryan had to head out of town.

Easter Brunch

Yeah yeah… I’m way late at blogging this.

Josh (@brooding_soul) joined Karen (@ok2baprincess) and I for Easter Brunch. Karen and I were invited to brunch at Will and Roger’s loft in St. Louis. I met Will and Roger at Alan (@alangeor), Joe and David’s (@clementdk) loft-warming party.

You all met Will and Roger from the pictures in that loft-warming party post.

There were a lot of other people there, including Jimmy (@jholman23), all as fun, unique and interesting as the other.  A wonderful crowd, what better way to celebrate the resurrection of Christ than with a room full of gays? (Ok ok, there were two straight couples but seriously…)

a

Will and Roger had quite a spread for us, all of the food was delicious and the home-made sangria, intoxicating (literally).

Roger sure knows how to make food that’s all sorts of delicious.

We had a great time eating, drinking and chatting it up, it seemed to go on for hours and leaving was definitely not something I wanted to do but, alas, homework called.

I went to Jimmy’s to pick up Josh, they had left a little earlier. We got some dinner just before heading out back to Columbia.  It was a great weekend and a great time in the car with Josh (we sang karaoke style the entire way home).

Scouts with An Horse and Appleseed Cast

_D7C7660

Went to Scout’s last concert here in Columbia on Friday. They played with An Horse and Appleseed Cast at Mojo’s.

The concert was great, love hearing their new stuff, though I do miss some of their old songs… Glad I have the CD I guess.  I didn’t take too many pictures there, seems like since I have like 12gb of Scouts pictures, any more would just be ridiculous.

Here are a few I did take though.

Chase recovers from a Brumski! LoL

Appleseed Cast

This time, and for his very first time, Josh (@brooding_soul) joined me for the Scouts concert.  It was great having him come with me and hanging out later. What a fun night.

Graduation

DSC_4952.JPG

All my people are leaving me! Today Geoff, Jenny, Jim, Jake, Josh, Shannon, Megan, Matt, Eric, Annie, … They’re all graduated. Congratulations to you all.

Today I should have graduated, let’s hope next year will be my year. I won’t be convinced until I’m walking the stage.

It is hard to think about living in Columbia without these people, and the many other unnamed in this post. You were all so very special to me and have had an incredible impact on who I am today.

I can look back to my freshman year, virgin, freshly out and learning how to make friends on my own. Immediately Geoff was in my life, and it was truly love at first sight. But our love was to be put on hold until we were ready to be with each other. We eventually made our relationship official and a world of firsts began.

We all know how it ended, it wasn’t pretty. But like a phoenix rising from the ashes, our friendship still rings true. That is true love, true friendship.

I will have lost the four most important people in my life this year, lost to Washington DC and St. Louis. Jenny and Geoff are both heading to St. Louis to continue their education. I’m so proud of them and their devotion to their life’s work. Landon and Jim are in and off to Washington DC. Landon headed there last semester but went through his second graduation this week gaining another degree from Mizzou. Saying goodbye to him just an hour ago was more emotional that I had expected.

It will take great effort on my part not to feel alone now, now that the absolute closest people in my life have left this part of their journey through life with me still trailing behind.  As I watch the last Lord of the Rings movie on TBS, I am reminded of A) how dorky I am, B) How much Geoff and I loved to watch this movie together, and C) how special true friends are.

On a less emotional note, where were the fashion police when this woman put on her fingernail polish?  Yikes.

This semester ended with great grades, a confusing (and yet promising) relationship(sorta), the departing of friends, the rekindling of old friendships (Dave, lunch was so much fun) and the start of a new(ish) life, and even more independence.
