Not a Trivial Night

December 9th I spent most of my day at the hospital for tests. I’ve been getting bronchitis around six times a year for a while now with the occasional pneumonia thrown in for good measure.

My general practitioner, finally having enough of it, sent me to a pulmonary specialist for a proper diagnosis. After a PFT (pulmonary function test), X-Ray, a CT-Scan, a few stress tests/O2 measures and a meeting with two pulmonary specialists, I had my diagnosis.

The news wasn’t good but also not the end of the world. It isn’t life ending but it is something I will live with for the rest of my life. It’s progressive, chronic and not a fun diagnosis. But not something that I will let get me down. I have too many wonderful people in my life, Ryan being at the very top of that list, that make life more glorious. More fantastic than any bad diagnosis could defeat.

That night I was given evidence of these awesome people. I got a call from Corey asking me to join him and Sam (@coreyschmidt and @samuelaveryhunt) at Harpo’s for trivia night.

You might say that the night itself was “trivial”, har har… This was my first foray in to trivia and, what a remarkable performance by all! We were just one question away from winning it all! Unfortunately, Phoebe (@fotofobe) was there…

Being the smarty pants she is, her team, the Never Nudes, swept up the win.

Never mind, that. The evening was a wicked fun, ending with a few more drinks with Chase (@clettenberg) at their place and my first taste of Wise Guys Pizza.

It wasn’t long before my unfortunate doctor visit was just a distant memory.

Thanks guys, I love you.

Facebook, Yucky Advertising!

Gay With Genital Warts?Like seriously, Facebook, what’s going on here?

Yes, I’m gay but no I don’t have the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).  In fact, I don’t know anyone that does.

Never the less, “Gay With Genital Warts?”?  Does this medication not work for “Breeder With Genital Warts?”

Blech.  Whatever.  Total FAIL here.  Which is why I love the thumbs up/down option on advertisements.

This was a big ol’ thumbs down and why?  Because it didn’t pertain to me.  If this is what targeted advertising is coming to, count me out!

Now back to some Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire… hmmm, that song title is ironic…

UPDATE:

I’d only been away from my blog for a few minutes before another stupid Facebook advertisement showed up.  This advert was for a law office that, seems to at least, specialize in DWI/MIP arrests/tickets.

First off, advertising to college kids that there are people out there to get them out of their DWI/MIP offenses is awful.  DWI should require jail time.  You are lucky when you don’t wreck your car and kill.  DWI has no excuse. Period.  I’m sure we all have done it at one point and we were all so very stupid to do it.Mid-Mo DWI_MIP Lawyers

I have had a roommate who was notorious in his drinking and driving, and it ended up with him messing up the car he was driving more than once.  He is lucky there were no other people involved, who knows how that could have changed his life?

Maybe it was working in the emergency room of my university’s hospital that has me like this.

I will never forget the Sunday morning when I had three patients come into the ER via life flight helicopter.

This family was on their way to church when a drunk driver hit their car head on.  Killing one child instantly, severely injuring another and her father.  I remember seeing the father crying before his daughter’s bed after he was released from the hospital he was flown to and made it to our ER.

I learned that just a few months earlier he had lost his wife, their mother to cancer.  And now he had lost one child with the other one slipping further away every moment.

The drunk driver was ok.  He should be in jail for life, for ending two children’s life.  For destroying what was left of a father and his fractured family.

I think I’m done now.

Don’t Think I Told Ya

So I haven’t been very good at updating, but this time around I have a really good excuse.

A little over a week ago, I had surgery on my left wrist to repair some damage from an old Starbucks accident.

It was supposed to be a really simple, 45 minutes, twilight anesthesia…  Then it got bad.  Turns out they had to cut a ligament or two, shave some bone and then put it all back together.  So right now I’ve got just one wrist that actually works.  Typing is a bitch and photography is nearly impossible.

So right now I’m a total gimp, and my medical fun doesn’t stop there!  So far this week I have had four medical tests/exams and two more coming up.  Yuck.

Right now I feel pretty darn fine, besides the pain in my left wrist.  The vicodin helps but knocks me out and make me quite the entertainer as I attempt to walk around my apartment.  Hilarious!

Ryan and I have an adorable garden… in our living room.  It’s a little too cold to set the plants free but, soon enough.

Ok, sleepy time.  Sorry I am so random, it’s late, yeah.

Lighting Project

I’m supposed to be working on this lighting project for my photography class. Here are a few pics I took today using different techniques. Basically I used a really long shutter release and a handheld flash. Nothing spectacular but my first try at it.

I’ve the the crazy eyes in that pic… haha This next one I really like.

And this one just features a light box for soft light, my light “box” kinda sucks though, it is wrinkly. I’m gonna make my own that should work better.

Meanwhile, my computer is fritzing out on me. Check out my trash can.
