I heard about the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 almost by accident one day. A friend was asking me for suggestions for a great set of affordable studio monitors and said he was interested in said headphones. My studio headphone experience was, and still is, pretty limited. Historically I have suggested people check out whatever Sennheiser studio headphone they could afford, namely the Sennheiser HD-280 Pro and HD-380 Pro, and of course the Sony MDR-7506. So I decided to give these a try.
I’ve now had the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 headphones for a few weeks and I’m sort of in love. I can’t wait to spend some time and critically review these headphones, but until then, they get pretty much my full endorsement. Of course they might not be the headphones for everyone and I’ll outline all of that then.
Along with that review I’ll be updating my review of the HeadRoom Total BitHead headphone DAC/amplifier. Turns out it is more valuable than I originally thought. I will also be putting out a review of the totally affordable FiiO E6 headphone amplifier which also impressed (despite a few significant design flaws) and maybe even the iPod Nano which has become my new workout buddy.
That’s about it for now, I just need to find some time to get all this written up.
This is really an awesome one! I think a lot of people would be so interested with this.. Anyway, I hope this is helpful for all of us.. Great job!
My friend is about to buy that headphone for her smart phone. I wonder how it will sound…
