Death and Taxes 2014: US Federal Budget Infographic

I received an email today from the good folks over at Visual.ly. One of the charts they sent, really an infographic, is one depicting the United States Federal Budget as proposed by President Obama. There has been a good bit of controversy on the 2014 budget. Not just because of the content of the budget but because of how late it was.

Obama presented his first budget on May 11, 2009, a month and two days longer than President George W. Bush’s budget was released during his first year in office. However, every year after that his budget was delivered in February, just like George W. Bush and President Bill Clinton. This year, on the other hand, Obama was two months late. Not the end of the world but this was the latest submission by an incumbent president as far as I could go back, 1923. Continue reading

I’m Nacho Friend!

This video was shared on Facebook by my friend Sam. It illustrates almost exactly what happens to me when I have a bit too much. One of my friend’s, named Aaron (I have fifteen), has a recording of such a moment. If it ever makes it to the Internet I’ll have 14 friends named Aaron. Of course if he illustrates it like this, fair game.

Here’s what Gawker had to say about it.

Guy’s Drunk Wife Tells Him a Lame Joke; He Animates the Result

Remember the other day when you were saying how much you loved the sketch series “Drunk History” but that you wished how instead of history it was a corny joke about tortilla chips that Morgan Patch told her husband Adam while sauced off her ass on a bottle of wine, which he then turned into an animated short?

I wish I had his skills and her jokes. You’re welcome and Happy Friday!

OMG: Water + Speaker + Camera = Mind Blown

I came across this video today and my jaw literally dropped. The guy behind it is known as Brusspup and his YouTube channel has a handful of illusions that are pretty inspired. But it’s the magic he does here with water that had me all giddy. Put on some headphones cause you’re going to want to hear this, as well as see it.

Ever since I created the first version of this video a year ago I’ve been wanting to try it again with more water and better lighting / footage. This is a really fun project and when you first see the results, chances are your jaw will drop. The main thing to keep in mind for this project is that you need a camera that shoots 24 fps.

The effect that you are seeing can’t be seen with the naked eye. The effect only works through the camera. However, there is a version of the project you can do where the effect would be visible with the naked eye. For that project, you’d have to use a strobe light.

So a hat tip to Brusspup for making me smile and look on in awe. Such a simple experiment all done with things I have in my apartment yet I never thought of doing this. He did a great job of explaining what’s going on in the video and gave plenty of instructions on how you can do this yourself in the full video description. Can’t wait to see what he does next.

I’m So Excited! Official Trailer

I discovered this movie trailer this morning while scrolling through YouTube videos. It’s a foreign film that apparently stars Penélope Cruz and Antonio Banderas so my hopes are high. However, I could not get beyond the idea that this is what Skylor really does at cruising altitude (see main character, the one in the middle of the frame).

Acclaimed, world-renowned Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar has been working on his next film titled Los amantes pasajeros, or re-titled to I’m So Excited! in English. Sony Pictures Classics, who already has the rights to release this sometime next year, has unveiled an early teaser trailer mostly showing three drunk male flight attendants singing and dancing to “I’m So Excited” by the Pointer Sisters. I’m really not sure what this is or what it’s about beyond that, but it’s supposedly set entirely on an airplane, which is a fun twist for Pedro Almodóvar.

Oh but seriously, who doesn’t want to see this movie? It looks pretty fabulous to me!

A Bad Lip Reading of the First 2012 Presidential Debate

Big thumbs up to Thomas Sanchez who posted this on Facebook earlier today. It is, by far, the funniest thing I have seen all week. And believe it or not, Denver debate moderator Jim Lehrer seems more in control of the debate in this parody video than in real life. Ok so that isn’t so hard to believe. Sadly President Obama still loses this debate, bad lip reading or not.

This was created by the brilliant people over at Bad Lip Reading. Can’t wait to see what they do with the next debate. Hopefully President Obama will bring his A Game instead of whatever that was he brought to Denver. Oh and, you’re welcome.

Skyward on the Golden Gate

Rarely do you get to look straight up through the pylons in the middle of any bridge. This is especially true for the Golden Gate Bridge here in San Francisco. Between the rushing traffic and hundreds of tourists, it isn’t a good idea.

Peering through the fog from the middle of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

I lucked out the other day while driving from Wine Country with friends. We luckily got stuck in traffic for a few minutes giving me just enough time to shoot this through the sunroof.

This was perhaps the first time I felt the magic that is the Golden Gate Bridge.
